StereotypesA stereotype is defined as: “a set of inaccurate, simplistic generalizations about a group that allows others to categorize them and treat them accordingly”. Many stereotypes are based on gender, race, social/ economic status, and other areas. How many times has this happened to you? Have people automatically treated you according to a set of inaccurate, simplistic generalizations? How does it make you feel? Do you allow yourself to be defined by the generalizations of others or do you know that you are “better than” the inaccuracies?

Unfortunately many stereotypes are based on what people see in the movies, on television, and other forms of media. Every man, woman, and child will be judged by others based on a stereotype sometime in their life. This is the opportunity to show that not only those being inaccurately judged can overcome and rise above the obstacle, but “we” can also reduce / eliminate  stereotyping by not buying into it and treating others as unique individuals. Show your support by putting an end to stereotypes.
